“Sorry, from this point on it’s a closed military era. You can’t go in.”
“I can.” Ruth saw Etti’s temper rising and put her hand lightly on her friend’s shoulder. “I’m going to see where my son was killed.”
Dear readers,
“Roadblock” is the latest episode in my serial novel, in which I try to portray the effect of the October 7 massacre and war on a group of characters, civilians and soldiers. It’s the sixth and last episode in “Holes,” the second chapter in the larger narrative.
Like last week, the illustration is by my daughter, Mizmor Watzman.
I’ve been living with my characters for a few months now and have very clear ideas about how they look. Mizmor has really captured Etti and Ruth here.
I’m going to take a break for a week, maybe more, to ponder the next chapter and the project as a whole. Also, I need to catch up on my paying work! Now’s a good time to let me know any thoughts, critiques, and reactions you have to what you’ve read so far.
Besorot tovot,
Haim
